Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal was sent off in the 14th minute of Chile’s match against Ecuador and apologised to his teammates and fans after the match. ‘I still can’t believe it’.

The 34-year-old was sent off after a nasty foul on Felix Torres in the 2-0 defeat against Ecuador in the World Cup Qualifiers.

The veteran, capped 129 times by the national team, was disappointed by himself after the match, and sent a message to apologise for the sending off and leaving his teammates with 10 men for most of the game.

“I still can’t believe it, I just want to apologise to my teammates and fans, the coaching staff, my family and the whole country,” Vidal wrote on Twitter.

“We will continue to fight until the end!”

The defeat to Ecuador means Chile are sixth in the table and currently one place behind the intercontinental play-off.

Ecuador are third with four games remaining, currently sitting seven points above Chile.

  1. This guy has not been the same since he turned 30-31. He did the same with Inter during a Champions League game, coming in and getting a red that put his team in a deep hole they did not get out of.
