Inter striker Lautaro Martinez admits he’s ‘really happy for the great year’ with Argentina, who qualified for the World Cup 2022 with a 0-0 draw against Brazil.

The Nerazzurri attacker was replaced by club teammate Joaquin Correa at half-time, but the goalless stalemate against the group leaders made sure Argentina have booked a ticket to Qatar 2022.

Lautaro pointed at a positive year with the Albiceleste, who won the Copa America 2021 for the first time since 1993.

“I’m really happy for the great year we had with the national team,” Lautaro told TyC Sports. “First the win of the Copa America, today the qualification for the World Cup.

“We must continue to work to progress as a team and as a group, we are on the right path. We are a group that always encourage each other, we are like brothers.

“Now, we must score as many points as possible in the last few games to try and finish first.”

Martinez revealed it was ‘a great joy’ to be in the dressing room after the draw with the Brazilians.

“It was a great joy, a dream,” Laurato revealed. “We hope to continue on this path, improving as a team and as a group.”

Inter: Sanchez and Lautaro in doubt for Napoli

But Inter fear he might return with an injury, as he was replaced at half-time due to the many blows he received in the match.

Chile forward Alexis Sanchez suffered a muscle injury in the 2-0 defeat to Ecuador and the two South Americans will be assessed upon their return to Milan.

Inter play leaders Napoli this weekend and Simone Inzaghi hopes to have all the big names available for the match against former Nerazzurri coach Luciano Spalletti.
