The Italy international had joined Tottenham from Empoli in a €20m deal last summer.
In order to secure survival, Empoli needed to beat Roma and wait for the result of Frosinone-Udinese.
The Bianconeri sealed a 1-0 win victory at the Stadio Stirpe, sending Eusebio Di Francesco’s Frosinone to Serie B.
