Gianluca Vialli says Serie A will only improve if the gap between Juventus and the other teams is closed.

The Bianconeri are in the Champions League final, an achievement hailed by many as a symbol of the rebirth of Italian football, but the former striker is more cautious.

“Juve being symbolic of a movement still has to be proven,” Vialli said, speaking at a charity event.

“There’s a gap between Juventus and the other Italian teams which must be bridged to raise the average level of the League.

“Juve being symbolic of a movement still has to be proven,” Vialli said, speaking at a charity event.

“There’s a gap between Juventus and the other Italian teams which must be bridged to raise the average level of the League.

“In England, the Premier League is much closer and more competitive, so it doesn’t seem appropriate to talk about the rebirth of Italian football.”

Vialli won the Champions League with the Old Lady in 1996, and gave his opinions on this year’s final.

“Firstly, Juve didn’t steal anything. It’s true that the draws went in their favour, but luck is earned.

“This is the result of the choices made by the club since the day after relegation [due to the Calciopoli scandal in 2006].

“There were difficult times, but [President] Andrea Agnelli has always made the right choices.

“However, Barcelona are stronger, don’t forget that. They’re best encountered in a one-off games, as they’re rarely below-par twice.

“If you have people like [Lionel] Messi, Neymar and [Luis Suarez] you can do a lot of damage over 180 minutes, but it’s all open.

“It’s being played in Berlin, and champions like [Gigi] Buffon, [Andrea] Pirlo and [Andrea] Barzagli can call on the memory of the 2006 World Cup final.”
