Giampiero Ventura is sparking his first controversies as a Coach by seemingly excluding Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi.

With Italy playing a friendly game against France on Thursday at 19:45 (UK time) and a World Cup qualifier against Israel on Monday, it was impossible to call the striker anyway, as he is currently injured and won't be back for up to three weeks.

However, Ventura's recent Press conference sparked a hot debate in Italy, especially regarding his claims that Berardi would not find space as long as he used the 3-5-2.

Berardi stands alongside Federico Bernardeschi, Lorenzo Insigne and Stephan El Shaarawy as one of Italy's most talented young players, and all of them give their best starting from the wing.

The 3-5-2 lets Ventura build on the solid foundations left by Antonio Conte whilst fully replicating the iron defence of Juventus. But the formation discourages the use of attack-minded wingers such as Berardi, favouring instead players who can track back, cover in defence and aid the midfield.

Some believe that the Sassuolo striker will only be left out for the first year, as Ventura works to make it out of a surprisingly tough World Cup group. His next call-ups, once Berardi returns to fitness, will be revealing.
