“I think we deserved more and there are regrets that we didn’t win, as we dominated and only allowed one shot on goal from the penalty. We wanted to take a certain approach, which we did to a degree.
“It is an important point, perhaps more important than it seems, as despite all the injuries, changes and difficulties we are in the next phase of the Europa League, the Coppa Italia and going strong in Serie A.
“We are starting to get back to the Torino of last season who play good football and fight hard. I don’t think Milan emerged from their own half for 90 minutes, but we aren’t very lucky against them. We had regrets last season in this fixture too.”
Centre-back Glik is Torino’s top scorer on five goals, so Ventura joked about using him as a striker.
“He scored them all on set plays and could’ve had another today, as it was very close. The team should’ve given a response to itself, to get back to enjoying its football and we did that tonight.
“I am disappointed with the result, but happy with the performance, as it feels to me as if Torino’s season is starting now. I saw a joy and enthusiasm that I hadn’t seen for a while.”
Alessio Cerci returned to the Stadio Olimpico to face his old club and Coach Ventura, but remained on the bench.
“He probably wanted to play tonight. I was pleased to see him, as he has the quality to be a great player, but still needs to realise potential is not enough and you need to work hard to get that out on to the field. I don’t think he’s yet shown what he can really do.”
