Torino boss Giampiero Ventura is convinced Alessio Cerci will deliver as a striker in his 3-5-2 system this season.

Cerci was mainly used as a winger in Turin last term which saw him win international recognition with Italy.

However, Ventura will be fielding him in a more central role when the Serie A season kicks off this weekend.

“Cerci has the physical and technical qualities to be great in any position,” the former Bari 4-4-2 tactician told La Stampa.

“He was great in that role last season against Milan and Catania in terms of the chances that he created and his goals.

“Therefore he can do a job in that position. I am convinced too that we will be given more space in attack this season and it will be up to him to take advantage of that.”

Cerci, 26, scored eight goals in 35 League games for the Granata following his move from Fiorentina.

Ventura, whose side face Sassuolo on Sunday, had claimed earlier this summer that Cerci had the potential to score 15 goals in 2013-14.
