Sky Sport Italia claim Ventura met with Lazio President – and FIGC counsellor – Claudio Lotito in a Rome hotel yesterday for final negotiations.

The plan is for Ventura to take over with Cannavaro as his assistant manager, suggested by new Italy co-ordinator Marcello Lippi.

In that sense, it’s likely Cannavaro is being groomed to become the Italy Coach further down the line when 68-year-old Ventura retires.

It’s reported Ventura would bring some members of the Toro staff with him, including Salvatore Sullo.

The budget for Ventura, Cannavaro and three staff members would be a total of €3.5m, a huge drop-off from the wages Conte was commanding.

Torino appear to have already found his replacement in advanced negotiations with ex-Milan Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
