The Granata sensationally scored two injury time goals yesterday to beat Genoa 2-1 and move up to seventh place in Serie A.

“We need to get there after having gradual growth, it’s not a given we are ready,” Ventura said to SkySport.

“This Sunday we have a game against a direct rival for Europe, Lazio. Six months ago that would have been an unthinkable though.

“If we get a result, then we will have another virtual play-off against Parma.

“Against Lazio we need to show the same performance we did against Roma, where we deserved to win.”

Cairo then gave his thoughts about Toro’s fine recent run of form.

“The Lazio game is important and we will prepare for it well. I had talked about a mini-tournament of seven matches.

“We have made a good start by taking six points from two games, but there are five left.

“It’s important to just take things game by game and do our best in this ‘mini-tournament’ that the boys have really taken on board.”
