Nicola Ventola says Erick Thohir isn’t to blame for the Fredy Guarin-Mirko Vucinic mess, whilst ‘everything he touches turns to gold’.

Inter’s new owner has been placed under further scrutiny this week for appearing to green-light a swap deal with Juventus for Guarin and Vucinic, only to then block the move at the last moment.

Whilst it has left Juve frustrated with the Nerazzurri’s actions and both players apparently unsettled and pushing for respective exits, Thohir should not be held accountable, according to former Inter man Ventola.

“There’s no reason to be angry with Thohir,” the retired striker, now based in the United States, told Tuttomercatoweb today.

“Making a trade like that in mid-season is not something that Inter needed, and the whole thing was rightly blocked.

“It is not easy to manage such a situation thousands of miles away, not knowing exactly the dynamics of the negotiations and everything that surrounds that.

“It is a year of transition. I believe that as early as next summer there will be many things changed at a senior level, perhaps with the addition of some people with his confidence.

“Thohir is a successful person, everything he touches turns to gold. Here in America his name is known, he is a successful man. He should be given time, the results will come.

“Struggles on the pitch? The team is playing well, but slowly the strength of the squad has been shown, which in my opinion is below four or five teams in Serie A at the moment.

“So, Inter today are a reflection of themselves.”

Ventola was famously picked out by Thohir as his favourite player from La Beneamata’s past.

“We have exchanged a few text messages, I thanked him for giving me a mention. It is clear that Inter then was about Ronaldo, but the fact that he spoke of me is undoubtedly a pleasure.

“Is there a role for me at the club now? No, like I said, we only exchanged a few messages.”
