The VAR system has been introduced to Serie A for the first time this season.

And during an interview with TMW Radio, the ex-whistle blower explained exactly how the technology will affect matches.

“The absence of complaints about a refereeing decision is one of the positive factors about the VAR experiment,” Di Marco began.

“The technology comes into effect whenever a goal is scored. There is a check, that could be silent or otherwise, given that the VAR will only come in if there is a clear mistake by the referee.

“It will also be used for incidents in the area or in the event of sendings off.”

Di Marco added that it was impossible for all controversy to be eradicated.

“The VAR will not, however, correct for example the incorrect award of a corner.

“The VAR will get rid of terrible errors, it will improve the refereeing but it can’t get rid of all the errors.”
