The Rossoneri are already in line for Chelsea forward Fernando Torres, but CEO Adriano Galliani has revealed to the Gazzetta dello Sport that having spoken to the Chelsea manager over the phone, a move for Van Ginkel is also still on.
“It was a pleasure to hear from him again,” said Galliani about the former Inter Coach. “I've always had respect for him and this conversation just confirmed it for me.”
Despite the player’s initial stance in rejected Milan to fight for first-team action at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho is reportedly leaning towards sending the Dutchman to San Siro.
The deal would see the prodigiously-talented midfielder head to Milan on loan for the season, at a cost of around €500,000.
That fee, however, will reduce if Van Ginkel makes more than 20 appearances. It's hoped that the clause will incentivise the player's development and ensure he gets game time.
The versatile 21-year-old made a name for himself at Vitesse in the Eredivisie, but has found it hard to break into Chelsea's first team since moving to London in 2013.
