Barcelona Coach Ernesto Valverde reflects on a “horrible” match against Roma in last season’s Champions League.

The Blaugrana won 4-1 in the first leg at Camp Nou, but the Italian side pulled off an incredible comeback to win 3-0 and advance to the semi-finals.

“We had a horrible day,” Valverde told Barça’s official website.

“The analysis that I have of the second leg is that everything surrounding that tie wasn’t good. When the draw was made everyone was clapping because we got Roma.

“The first match was a complicated one where we took the advantage, but that was worse than it seemed. We won 4-1, if we’d won 2-1 then everyone – absolutely everyone – would have been more focused for the second game.

“It was a match where we were on the back foot from the beginning, they came at us strong and we couldn’t turn it around.

“Credit to them. In competitions like those, the Champions League or the World Cup, it can all come down to a single mistake on a single day. You have to be especially focused.”
