The Roma midfielder played 73 minutes of the 2-0 win over city rivals Lazio in November, and though fans were boycotting – as they will on April 3 – he was left in do doubt as to the significance of the game.

“We won 2-0,” Vainqueur recalled in an interview with Roma Radio.

“Also from the point of view of the fans they weren’t all there, we could feel the pressure in the air.

“There was tension in the days leading up to it, but we won and we were pleased.”

The Frenchman played for Standard Liege in Belgium, and was asked about this week’s terror attacks.

“These are tragic events that we saw in Paris in November. We can’t predict them, we have to remain united and stand in solidarity together while trying to find a solution.”
