Roma defender Kostas Manolas has reportedly rejected Zenit St Petersburg, so Manchester United and Chelsea step in.

The centre-back had agreed a deal with the Russian club, but didn’t turn up for his medical.

It was then revealed that there was a dispute over payment, as Manolas wanted his wages defined in Euros, rather than Roubles.

The Russian currency has been more volatile in recent years, so the player and his agent wanted to ensure his salary would be written in Euros to avoid losing out due to fluctuations.

Now SportMediaset is reporting that the problem cannot be resolved, and Manolas will not be moving to Zenit.

However, he is also extremely unlikely to return to the Giallorossi, not least because they need to sell him to help with Financial Fair Play.

It’s thought the Greek international is now likely to move to the English Premier League, with both Manchester United and Chelsea interested.
