Lecce fans will have to wait a little longer for Samuel Umtiti to arrive from Barcelona, as his flight was forced into a detour.

The World Cup winner is on his way to Salento after agreeing a dry loan, with the Blaugrana paying 100 per cent of his salary.

Newly-promoted Serie A side Lecce only need to pay some performance-related bonuses, if those are activated during his stay at the Stadio Via del Mare.

Umtiti was expected at the airport in Brindisi this afternoon, but Sportitalia report there has been a slight delay.

His private plane developed a fault and was forced into a detour, landing in Perugia instead.

Once the problem has been fixed, he can get back in the air and is expected to land in Brindisi at circa 19.20 local time (18.20 UK).

The 28-year-old France international defender has struggled with numerous injury problems in recent years, including a fracture to his foot in January, repeated knee issues and twice contracting COVID-19.
