Tottenham left back Destiny Udogie was the victim of racist abuse after Spurs’ win over Liverpool on the weekend, the club have confirmed.

The 20-year-old Italian was initially bought by the North London side last year for around €18m but was left with Udinese on loan for another season. He was integrated into Ange Postecoglou’s squad this summer and has quickly hit the ground running in the Premier League.

Udogie has appeared in all of Tottenham’s league games so this season, providing two assists across his 595 minutes of action. Many Italy fans are now calling for him to be integrated into Luciano Spalletti’s national team.

As confirmed today, Udogie was racially abused on social media after Tottenham’s contentious 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday night.

At one point, the 20-year-old seemingly went down softly after a minor collision with Diogo Jota, who was promptly shown a yellow card. Moments later, the Portuguese forward was shown a second yellow, leaving the Reds with nine men.

Tottenham won the match in the dying seconds after an own goal from Joel Matip, rubbing salt in Liverpool wounds after an incredibly tense match with poor officiating.

Spurs have shared their support for Udogie and are now working to help identify any individuals responsible.
