Beto already had his Everton medical and Udinese director of sport Federico Balzaretti confirms ‘we are down to the final details’ of the transfer.

The Portuguese striker flew out yesterday to Merseyside and was given the first part of his tests today, ready to complete the €30m plus bonuses move to the Premier League.

Udinese are in action this evening at the Stadio Arechi for their Serie A match against Salernitana and begin life after Beto.

“We still have to work out the last few things, but we are down to the final details,” Balzaretti told DAZN.

“It is an important loss for the squad, but also a very important transfer on an economic level for the club. We always said that we would evaluate any offer that came in and we are still sitting down for talks, as it is not complete yet, but it should go all the way.

“Beto expressed the desire that we talk to Everton, so we are progressing.”

Lorenzo Lucca started against Salernitana this evening, having arrived from Pisa after a loan experience at Ajax, but Udinese will also try to sign a replacement for Beto.

Among the favourites for the role is Venezia hitman Joel Pohjanpalo, a Finland international who turns 29 next month.

He has already scored two goals in three games this season for Venezia between Serie B and the Coppa Italia.

“We will make sure that we are ready. It is not easy to replace Beto, but we are working on it and he is not the only name. We are evaluating the best profile as his substitute.”

Udinese have also been linked with the potential return to the Dacia Arena of Roberto Pereyra, who is now a free agent.

“Pereyra is like one of the family. He has character and is versatile, so we are evaluating it.”
