The controversy over the penalty not awarded to Bologna against Juventus continues, with the Referees Association confirming ‘it was an evident error.’

The incident happened during last night’s 1-1 Serie A draw in Turin, when Bologna were leading 1-0.

Samuel Iling Junior prevented Dan Ndoye from tapping a loose ball into the empty net from six yards, after Mattia Perin had got a glove to the initial shot.

It caused a great deal of controversy and numerous analysts have all said they were stunned VAR did not intervene to recommend an on-field review.

“The penalty not awarded to Bologna yesterday for Iling Junior’s foul on Ndoye was an evident error, first from the referee and then the two men in the VAR booth.”

That is the quote given by news agency ANSA citing ‘sources’ from the AIA, the Italian Referees’ Association.

They note that “the mistake is very clear.”

It had already been reported today that the AIA would suspend both referee Marco Di Bello and the two VAR officials, Francesco Fourneau and Luigi Nasca, for one or two rounds as a result of the error.
