Udinese are edging closer to a deal to sign AS Monaco centre-back Chrislain Matsima, claim Sportitalia.

The 21-year-old is said to be a target specifically named by coach Andrea Sottil to reinforce his squad this season.

A product of the AS Monaco youth academy, he had a loan spell at FC Lorient and returned to base in January.

He has 30 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt and represented France at Under-20 level on 10 occasions.

Udinese are not the only side interested in Matsima, as they face competition from Villarreal, but the Spaniards have less urgency after securing Matteo Gabbia on loan from Milan.

The Friulani already added to their group of centre-backs this week with the signature of Christian Kabasele from Watford, securing a contract to June 2025.
