Napoli have been drawn into Group A of the Champions League, where they’ll face Ajax, Liverpool and Rangers.
The Partenopei are returning to Europe’s premier club competition for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign, when they were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Barcelona after a difficult two-legged clash. They’ve never progressed further in the competition, something they’ll be hoping to achieve this season.
Ajax will certainly prove a tough test for Spalletti’s Napoli side, looking as dominant as ever in the Eredivisie. Historical precedent suggests that it’ll be balanced affair, with both teams winning a match apiece in their prior two meetings in the UEFA Cup in the 1969-70 season.
Napoli also have a fairly balanced history with Liverpool – out of their six previous clashes, both teams have won twice and the other two games ended level. Their most recent meetings came in the 2019-20 Champions League group stages, where the Partenopei won 2-0 at home and drew 1-1 at Anfield, results they’ll be hoping of repeating this campaign.
Rangers and Napoli have never faced off before, so both teams will be looking to kickstart their head-to-head record with dominant displays.
I actually think napoli can win this group
Napoli can certainly move on from this group, surprised they got this fortunate
do we dare to dream.
Having two British sides in the same group is a bit of a concern.
