Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved comments on the Champions League draw with PSG, why Arkadiusz Milik was preferred to Memphis Depay and is coy on reports Leandro Paredes is on his way.

The Bianconeri were placed in Group H for the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica and Maccabi Haifa.

“Every team is tough at this level and we are happy to play in the Champions League with these opponents,” Nedved told Mediaset.

Curiously, at the moment the draw was being made, Juve were advancing in their negotiations with PSG to sign midfielder Paredes, who will join Angel Di Maria in facing his former club in the Champions League.

“I cannot say anything because he is not our player. There are some players that could complete our squad, the market is not closed and we will do something.”

While talks with Memphis Depay were abandoned due to his wage demands, Juve instead brought in Milik on loan from Olympique Marseille and the former Napoli centre-forward had his medical today.

“You drew up a list of potential strikers and Depay was on that list, but we chose Milik because he has the right characteristics to complete our strike force. We expect goals from him and believe that is what strikers need to bring.”

It has not been the best start to the Serie A season for the Old Lady, beating Sassuolo 3-0, but then held to a goalless stalemate by Sampdoria.

“We have just started, perhaps we hoped to have a few more points, but we just need some time to work,” continued Nedved.

“I think the criticism after the Sampdoria game was unfair. We had a lot of serious injuries and in that match were missing four potential first-choice players. As Max Allegri said, we just need to focus and face every game with the right attitude.”

  1. yawn. Pavel when are you going to leave the club? You know, so we can get someone with more than a gram of competence in to replace you. Milik and Depay are two completely different players. Vlahovic and Milik up top? it’ll be like the days of Toni and Matri all over again

  2. Incredible how couch managers who never kicked a ball once in their lives can criticize Nedved. The world is full of losers.
