“It’s a great chance to not only play a very good Italian team, but also for the players to experience the country itself before we are based there during the tournament,” said England manager Aidy Boothroyd.

“It’s also a chance to start working on how we want to play in the tournament, our game plans and getting our best squad together.”

Both the Azzurrini and Young Lions are among the favourites to win the trophy next summer.

Italy have beaten England eight times at Under-21 level, drawn five and lost five.

Their most recent encounter was a last-gasp 3-2 English victory on November 10.
