Gigi Di Biagio insists the Italy Under-21 side’s defeat to Zdenek Zeman’s Serie B team Pescara was “a good test.”

The Azzurrini lost 2-1 at the Stadio Adriatico in a run-out, as Luca Vido’s opener was wiped out by Leonardo Mancuso and Pierluigi Cappelluzzo.

Both Vido and Milan striker Patrick Cutrone hit the woodwork.

“It’s always a pleasure to see Zeman again and he really hasn’t changed,” smiled Italy Under-21 Coach Di Biagio.

“We have many lads who don’t have good physical fitness, seeing as they play so little at club level, so we needed a good test like this to put minutes in the legs.

“It was a good first half, playing very well in the first 20-25 minutes, then we lost our way as time wore on, attempting too many long balls and making mistakes that are not like us.”

They will face Russia in a friendly in Frosinone on Tuesday at 17.30 GMT.
