Gigi Di Biagio is officially the new Italy Under-21 Coach after Devis Mangia stepped aside. “It was an extraordinary experience.”
Mangia had just taken the Azzurrini to second place in the European Under-21 Championship last month, beaten 4-2 by Spain in the Final.
He had only take over a year ago after Ciro Ferrara left to accept a job at Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”11″>Sampdoria.
“I want to thank President Giancarlo Abete and all of the FIGC for this extraordinary experience,” wrote Mangia in a statement.
“I received the utmost support from the Federation, but after a splendid time at the Euros I want to get back to daily activity on the training ground so I can further develop my career.”
The new Under-21 Coach is former Roma and Inter midfielder Di Biagio, who was already working for the FIGC as tactician of the Under-20 team.
Di Biagio turned 42 last month and has been working as a Coach at various youth sectors since January 2008.
He had been on the Under-20 bench for two years.
