It took just 12 minutes for France to break through, as Calabria’s marking left something to be desired, allowing Celtic hitman Dembele to nod in a cross from the right.

Parigini and Federico Bonazzoli had chances, while debutant goalkeeper Novara goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò performed important saves on Dembele.

Gianluca Scamacca stung the French shot-stopper’s gloves, though supersub Capone found the equaliser within 20 seconds of stepping off the bench.

The Pescara striker, owned by Atalanta, curled a marvellous right-foot strike into the top corner.

Ex-Genoa midfielder Oliver Ntcham almost snatched the winner late on, but blasted just over the bar.
