The traditional competition is held in France between Under-21 sides and the Azzurrini got off to a great start in Group A.

Alberto Paloschi took just four minutes to open the scoring with a lob from the edge of the box, while they had to wait until the 85th for Manolo Gabbiadini to tap in Mattia Destro's assist.

It was the third game on the trot that Cittadella striker Gabbiadini has hit the back of the net.

Colombia and Portugal drew 1-1, so Italy now lead Group A in the Toulon Tournament with three points.

“It was important to win the first game. We had a few problems with tension because it was the opener, but I am satisfied. As long as the results go well, they give us confidence and allow us to believe in the work we're doing.”
