The 29-year-old has been given a two-match ban for the incident, with the sanction harsher because he’s the captain.

Other players sent-off at the weekend were Sassuolo midfielder Davide Biondini, Andrea Conti of Atalanta and Chievo’s Dario Dainelli, and they each received a one-match ban.

Napoli have been fined €5,000 for throwing a “half-full bottle and a smoke bomb” onto the pitch in the draw with Lazio, while the Biancocelesti were fined €2,500 delaying the start of the second half.
