An unexpected acrobatic strike and slick team goal secured all three points for Frosinone in an impressive win over Empoli.
The Giallazzurri, under the guidance of coach Eusebio Di Francesco, have done well in the first few months of their topflight return, picking up three wins and three draws in their first 10 Serie A outings.
Things have been far more difficult for Empoli, who lost their first five consecutive matches, leaving them 19th in the league table and at risk of being sucked into a relegation battle.
The first half at the Stadio Benito Stirpe started in a fairly balanced fashion, but it didn’t take too long for the pendulum to swing Frosinone’s way, allowing them to pile the pressure on an uncertain Empoli.
Marvin Cuni had a goal disallowed in the 20th minute after a VAR check confirmed an offside, leaving the home side waiting for their opener.
The Giallazzurri maintained this pressure in the second half and found the breakthrough just before the hour mark, taking a 1-0 lead after Cuni acrobatically connected with a cross and flicked it past Etrit Berisha.
Frosinone doubled their lead in the 74th minute with a slick passing sequence, finished off by teenager Arijon Ibrahimovic, giving the home side a deserved 2-0 advantage.
Francesco Caputo clawed one back for Empoli in the 86th minute, but it was nothing more than a consolation as Frosinone saw out their advantage, snatching all three points after an impressive evening.
