Roma’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid will be officiated by Frenchman Clement Turpin, who represents fond memories for the Giallorossi.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 20.00 GMT on Tuesday.

Eusebio Di Francesco’s men will qualify for the Round of 16 as long as CSKA Moscow don’t win against Viktoria Plzen, but even a draw in this fixture would be enough too.

UEFA have assigned the game to French referee Turpin, assisted by Nicolas Danos, Cyril Gringore, additional referees Ruddy Buquet and Nicolas Rainville.

The Fourth Official is Hicham Zakrani.

Roma have fond memories of the 36-year-old Frenchman, because he held the whistle when they crushed Barcelona 3-0 here in the Champions League quarter-final on April 10.

They also won the other game with Turpin, a 2-1 Europa League success away to Feyenoord in February 2015.

This season, he officiated as Inter fought back to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at San Siro.

Turpin’s record with Italian sides at club and international level is of eight wins, two draws and only three defeats.

With Spanish teams, Turpin oversaw eight victories, two stalemates and two losses.

His only previous Real Madrid match was a 4-0 Champions League group stage success against Ludogorets in December 2014.
