Under-21 international Marcello Trotta “wants a move to Italy in January,” confirmed the Barnsley and Fulham striker’s agent.

The 22-year-old is owned by Fulham, but currently on loan with Barnsley following spells at Brentford and Watford.

It’s reported Verona scouts were watching Trotta during the Italy Under-21 friendly against Denmark in Matera last night.

“These things are pleasing. We also know there are other clubs interested in Marcello, which just confirms his quality,” agent and brother Giuseppe Trotta told Tuttomercatoweb.

“The plan is to come back to Italy. After many years in England, as an Italian, Marcello would like to measure himself up against his home League.

“We also have an agreement with Fulham that, if an offer comes in from Italy, Marcello can return to the peninsula.

“Unfortunately Fulham never gave my brother the opportunity to express himself. Over the summer Wigan strongly wanted him, but the negotiations didn’t go through.

“As soon as the season had started, Felix Magath put him out of the squad along with other players like the ex-Roma goalkeeper Stekelenburg, so we decided to accept a six-month loan to Barnsley. That way he could play and prepare himself for a January move.”

Trotta’s contract with Fulham will expire in June 2015.
