The veteran was full of support for the way Allegri overcame the initial uncertainty about his appointment by winning the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and reaching the Champions League final.

“I had a different welcome to Allegri, but the scepticism was there anyway,” Trapattoni told Corriere dello Sport.

“Everyone lies in wait for you, ready to judge and eventually to criticise.

“It’s nothing but facing a new test. But Allegri has handled everything brilliantly.

“He’s managed to impose himself with the players, he’s convinced them with his words and his work.

“It seems to me that Allegri has managed to hit the spot with each of his players. Including those who were playing with the previous management but then found themselves out of the team.”
