Francesco Totti silenced contract renewal reports by insisting “I will never be a problem for Roma.”

The captain’s current deal is due to expire in June 2016 and it’s rumoured the club do not want to offer a renewal, effectively forcing his retirement.

“I want to clarify something. I never asked to change my contract,” wrote Totti on his Facebook page.

“The owners, club and I have always been in sync on this matter. It is my passion that bonds me to these colours.

“I have never been and never will be a problem for Roma. I will applaud from the pitch, from the bench and from the stands for the players who wear and will wear this shirt.

“I have always desired and dreamed of the best for this team.”

Totti also discussed the reports he was unhappy at being benched for last night’s 3-0 victory over Sassuolo.

“In these final rounds of the season our position in the table will be decided. We must try to reach our objective, which is second place to enter directly into the Champions League and the football that counts in Europe.

“Each of us in his role will have to put opinions aside on the way the campaign has gone until this moment.

“Now is the time to stay united if we want to reach our target. The club, players and fans must stick together for the good of Roma!

“Against Genoa we will certainly gamble with a consistent part of that result and I am sure together we can do it.

“Let’s leave trials by media and decisions about the future to June. Personally, I can say that of course playing makes me happy, but at the moment I am evaluating things beyond my presence on the field.

“I feel that I can give a contribution whether on the pitch or off it.”
