Francesco Totti dedicated Roma’s victory to Leandro Castan, who will face brain surgery “with the same grit he puts into each game.”

The captain was suspended for today’s 2-1 win away to Atalanta, but wrote the customary note on his blog.

“Winning when coming from behind is always difficult and even more so in Bergamo, as Atalanta are tough fighters.

“Many compliments to Michele Somma for his Serie A debut, which represents a source of pride for our youth academy.

“Above all an affectionate embrace for Leo. He’s a great man and will face this moment with the same grit he puts into each game. We are waiting for him.”

Castan has been diagnosed with a cavernoma – an abnormal cluster of blood vessels in the brain that are prone to swelling and bleeding.

They cause dizziness, nausea, but can have more serious effects too.

Brazil international Castan will undergo microsurgery next week to correct the problem and is not expected to play again until April.
