Francesco Totti publicly made up with his former Roma coach Luciano Spalletti yesterday and it’s reported this could be the first step towards bringing the World Cup winner into the Federation.

The pair had been painted as enemies for six years, since Spalletti dropped the legendary captain from the Roma squad and effectively pushed him towards retirement.

However, there have been tentative comments of encouragement in recent months, resulting in yesterday’s hug at the Bambin Gesu children’s hospital in Rome.

According to Il Messaggero, there was more than just a peace-making gesture behind that moment, as it was part of a general approach from the FIGC to hire Totti.

They already appointed Gianluigi Buffon as their Team Manager, the bond between the squad and Federation who accompanies them, similar to the position held by Gianluca Vialli until his death.

Now Totti could be a new addition to the staff, especially as he has seen his initial attempts to get back into the Roma camp hit problems.

It is suggested the first step could be using Totti as an ambassador for the Azzurri, then seeing what other roles he could take within the group.
