Tottenham Hotspur had more talks with Atalanta today, it’s reported, and are edging towards a deal worth €57m including bonuses.

This brings them close enough to the €60m asking price for the Argentina international centre-back.

They were already pushing hard, raising their initial €40m plus add-ons offer several times with former Juventus director of sport Fabio Paratici now in charge of Spurs negotiations.

Curiously, it was Paratici who agreed the sale of Romero to Atalanta from Juve last summer, on a two-year loan with option to buy for a total €18m.

Just a year later, La Dea are ready to treble their money on the defender.

According to Calciomercato.com and TuttoAtalanta.com, the details of the latest offer are €50m in cash plus another €5m in easy-to-achieve bonuses and a further €2m if Tottenham win silverware.

Romero returned to training this week and was expected to have a meeting with coach Gian Piero Gasperini n which he’d ask for the transfer.

It’ll mean missing out on the Champions League, which Atalanta have qualified for in three consecutive campaigns, reaching at least the Round of 16.
