Tottenham and Manchester United linked defender Alessandro Bastoni commented on Inter’s lack of consistency, Romelu Lukaku’s injury and his thoughts on his future.

Recent reports suggest that contract renewal talks between the 23-year-old and the Nerazzurri have hit a roadblock recently, with the centre back wanting €6m net per season in wages and the club only offering €4.5m net.

Bastoni was approached by both Tottenham and Manchester United last summer but was not interested in a move at the time, but things could change at the end of the season, especially if he only has a year left on his deal.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset, Bastoni first discussed Inter’s recent Derby della Madonnina wins over rivals Milan.

“We knew the importance of this match because, beyond the three points, it was important to give a signal to ourselves.

“After Riyadh we couldn’t continue the positive momentum with the defeat against Empoli, so it was very important to win. It was a very important derby.”

He commented on the Nerazzurri’s lack of consistency this season.

“Yes, we’ve certainly been lacking a bit this season and it’s the reason why we’re 13 points behind Napoli, because then in the direct clash we saw that we can play with anyone and it’s precisely the consistency that we lack and that we continue to seek.”

The 23-year-old gave his thoughts on the Scudetto race with Napoli.

“The gap is big and it’s useless to hide it, but we want to win and from here to the end of the season we will try to win them all and we’ll see how Napoli will do. But we have to look at ourselves and we’ll try to win them all.”

Bastoni underlined his happiness at Inter amid the various transfer rumours.

“Yes, right now I feel satisfied, I feel good here. My family is happy here, so for now everything is fine.”

Finally, Bastoni discussed the serious injury suffered by Lukaku this season, limiting his contributions following his loan return from Chelsea.

“He had a more serious injury than it seemed and he needed more time to come back and be what we know, but he will give us a big hand between now and the end of the season.”
