Italy boss Cesare Prandelli is thinking of recalling veteran Verona striker Luca Toni for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Azzurri will face Bulgaria on September 6 without the suspended duo of Milan’s Mario Balotelli and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo of Sunderland.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Prandelli is considering the shock selection of the now 36-year-old.

Toni was the Serie A Week 1 headline maker as his brace saw the newly promoted Gialloblu beat Milan 2-1 on Saturday.

The 2006 World Cup winner has scored 16 goals in 47 caps for the Azzurri, but he hasn’t played for his country in over four years.

His last appearance came in the 2009 Confederations Cup defeat to Brazil under Marcello Lippi. His last goal was against Greece in a November 2008 friendly.
