Sandro Tonali underlined his and Milan’s goals for this season and how it felt to win the Scudetto last season.

The 22-year-old Italian midfielder is a key part of Stefano Pioli’s squad in the Lombardy capital, playing an anchoring role in front of the defence. Tonali has made 13 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in that time.

Speaking to Icon magazine, Tonali first discussed Milan’s goals for the 2022-23 season.

“The next goal is to confirm what we did last year, which is the most difficult thing. We all have to stay focused within our dream.”

He reflected on the Rossoneri’s Scudetto success last season.

“After the return derby we realised that it was a different year, that we were there on our own merits and that we didn’t have to waste any more games. When we got to that point, everything was easy.”

Finally, Tonali revealed the secret to his personal successes over the last few years.

“Focus. Ever since I was a teenager, I realised that, despite my family and lifelong friends in Sant’Angelo Lodigiano, I was on my own in this world and had to learn to manage myself.”

Milan currently sit second in the Serie A table after 11 games, three points behind league leaders Napoli. The Rossoneri lost their direct clash with the Partenopei last month and they’ll be desperate to keep up the pressure on Luciano Spalletti’s side in the run-up to the World Cup break.
