“There are Roma players who must get into the right mindset,” Tommasi told Rete Sport.

“The problem is that everything is more complicated now they’ve been eliminated from the Champions League.”

Tommasi is President of the Italian player’s union, and believes calcio needs major reforms.

“There’s little movement in Italian football, because the thinking isn’t to reform things, it’s just being able to write that things have been made.

“They don’t even get contemplation, failing to change the Primavera division is an example of this. There are Under-21 internationals from other nations in Serie A, but not one from the Italian Under-21 national team plays in the top division.

“That should make us understand how reforms should be, look at Germany since their football was reformed. Reform is a nice word, but here the effects are secondary.

“Important talents are leaving our youth teams, but the names that resonate are always those from abroad.

“We hear about wars between clubs for [Geoffrey] Kondogbia, Gabigol and others but [Marco] Verratti went abroad [to Paris Saint-Germain] for a ridiculous price compared to what is paid for players from overseas.”
