Stefano Pioli says Lazio have ‘foundations’ for next season, but refuses to say whether they can compete for the Scudetto.

The Biancocelesti have risen to second in Serie A after 10 games undefeated in all competitions, and have been tipped to rival tomorrow’s opponents Juventus for next season’s title.

“This year was important to lay foundations,” Pioli explained in his pre-match Press conference.

“That’s what we’re doing.

“To talk about winning the title from here is pointless though, there are a lot of things which can happen. We don’t fully know our own potential yet.

“Tomorrow is an important test, as we lost the first game heavily. Now let’s see if we’ve gotten closer to the strongest team in Italy.”

Even an Aquile triumph tomorrow would leave Pioli’s side nine points adrift of the Bianconeri, does Pioli regret dropped points earlier in the season?

“No, regrets are for those who haven’t tried their best. That wasn’t true for us, it was a step along our path to growth.

“We often forget the point we started from. We’ve prepared well, and we have an important test tomorrow.

“When a student has prepared well and is presented with an examination, they must go to face it with great dedication and sincerity.”
