Marcus Thuram reveals admits he is ‘becoming a different player’ thanks to his time at Inter and that France teammate Kylian Mbappé ‘always said’ he would become a centre-forward.
The 26-year-old spent most of his career in a variety of support striker or wider roles in a trident attack, but since coming to Inter as a free agent from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2023, has been used as a partner to Lautaro Martinez.
It is certainly working, as he has scored five goals and provided eight assists in 16 games between Serie A and the Champions League.
He is carrying on the form at international level too, becoming a real centre-forward for France under Didier Deschamps.
“I try to work hard, I know that I play for an important club with big games every week, so of course I am becoming a different player,” Thuram told Telefoot after finding the net against Gibraltar in a 14-0 victory.
“Deschamps insists that we need to be devastating in front of goal and finish the chances, because being decisive as a Number 9 is what they ask of you in Italy.”
Thuram reveals that his Bleus teammate Mbappé had been waiting a long time to see this transformation in his career.
“Kylian and I have known each other since we were kids. He always said that I would end up becoming a Number 9. He felt it, knew my qualities and what I bring to the team. I feel like I am learning new aspects of the role every day.”
