The Bosnian had an accident in the gym yesterday, which caused a traumatic sub-amputation of the distal phalanx and fracture of the fourth finger – essentially the top of his finger was chopped off.

“Lulic is fine,” Biancocelesti doctor Stefano Salvatori told Lazio Style Radio.

“We went to see him several times last night, today the Coach [Stefano] Pioli and several of his teammates also went to visit him.

“Unfortunately he’ll have to remain in the clinic to undergo the treatment necessary for his recovery.

“The sub-amputation is of the distal phalanx. I want to compliment the speed of the surgery by Doctor [Roberto] Bianchini and the Mater Dei clinic.

“It was a fundamental aspect, the amputation was not complete, if it was he’d have lost the finger. The good thing is that Lulic is left-handed, and it’s on his right hand. If it happened to a foot it’d be more debilitating.

“We want to point out that the situation is under control. The team that performed the operation is now monitoring him constantly.

“It will require 15 to 20 days out. Now, however, the most important thing is to see the reaction of the distal part of the fourth finger.

“Fortunately it didn’t affect the whole finger.”
