New Inter President Erick Thohir has reportedly temporarily halted contract negotiations with all players, but is keen to renew Coach Walter Mazzarri.

The Indonesian, who has begun life at San Siro since completing a takeover from Massimo Moratti, has reportedly put a delay on resolving all contractual situations at the club on the playing side until February or March next year.

The Nerazzurri were understood to be in extension talks with both Fredy Guarin and Samir Handanovic, but the duo, and all players whose current deals expire in 2014 and 2015, will only have their situations reviewed come next spring.

Whilst this is seen to be at Thohir’s request to properly assess the playing squad he has inherited, reports from the Corriere dello Sport indicate that the owner is conversely keen to open talks shortly over a new deal for Coach Walter Mazzarri.

It is believed that Thohir is encouraged by early discussions with the technician over the team’s direction and is ready to begin negotiations with his agent over extending Mazzarri’s current deal that expires in June 2015 by at least another season.

Thohir this week has compared Mazzarri to Jose Mourinho.
