Erick Thohir has asserted his confidence in Roberto Mancini to take Inter up the table, as he discusses the need for the Coach to have time to assess his players.

The Nerazzurri are under their returned Coach following last Friday’s decision by the President to dispense with Walter Mazzarri following a difficult run of form.

“Every time you make decisions it is important that they are done for the sake of Inter,” Thohir has considered on the subject again, following the club’s shareholders’ meeting today.

“Every decision is made collectively and in recent days we have made decisions, not just in changing the Coach. The objective remains Europe, where the Champions League would be even better.

“We are happy with Mancini for his experience, thirst for success and his charisma. We will be able to achieve our goal in a sustainable way.

“We have three games ahead of us, we want to collect as many points as possible. At this time it is important. The difference to those in first is not that great, so it was the right time for a change.

“We want to make sure that we have a solid foundation on and off the field to return to the top positions as soon as possible.”

Thohir was asked about the potential to dip into the January transfer market.

“When we set the budget we had some ideas about players. But now we have two Coaches. But the saving we have made elsewhere allow us to sustain this situation.

“For the acquisition of new players we will have to talk to the Coach, that he is happy with the team. It is important to understand with him in the next few games what he thinks about the squad.

“But already we have a good team and Mancini agrees. We are transparent with him, we have explained the Financial Fair Play regulations and spoken of our strategy.

“I met with him last night, he recognises very well that our management is based on collective decisions, which is different to the past. Our decisions are made to achieve Europa League and Champions League.”

There was speculation former President Ernesto Pellegrini would be coming back into the fold and buying out Massimo Moratti’s 30 per cent shares.

“I have a great relationship with him, always cordial in greeting him at the stadium. But we have not spoken about these things.

“I am happy when I hear that someone wants to support Inter, it is important to understand that this is a family.

“The support of the fans is very important, they should be part of the whole chain. Even for an experienced Coach like Mancini it is not easy to arrive in this situation. I am glad that people want to support Inter.”
