President Erick Thohir praises “the new Inter” but warns “the season is still long” for Roberto Mancini’s side.

The Nerazzurri patron spoke to Mediaset earlier today about the season so far, and gave another interview to Inter Channel, from his base in Jakarta.

“Of course I’m satisfied,” Thohir said.

“We’ve played 15 games and always been first or second, and we’re happy about that. The season is still long though.

“I’m thinking about the game against Napoli where we had difficulties because we played with 10 men and it wasn’t positive.

“We’re not asking for help from the referees though, because the game is the game and we have to accept the reality.

“[Coach] Roberto Mancini and the team have proven that they’re strong and have great character. They’ve shown a willingness to fight, and that’s what counts.

“We’re a team of fighters, and you can win or lose, though obviously it’s better to win. We’re fighters though, and that’s the most important thing.

“The last two League games [before Christmas, Udinese and Lazio] are important, Lazio are one of the strongest teams in Serie A, but we have to win, especially since we’re at home.

“The Coppa Italia against Cagliari? We lost to Cagliari last year, it was a very bad time. But Serie A is Serie A and the Coppa Italia is another story.

“At the same time, anyone who plays against Inter always wants to fight, so there’s motivation regardless of the competition you’re playing in.

“They’re a good team even though they’re playing in Serie B and it will be difficult.

“I can’t wait to watch these games, we have to prove in these games that we’re Inter, the new Inter, which is strong.”

Thohir also used the interview to urge Beneamata fans to fill San Siro, though they already boast the highest average attendance in Serie A, with over 50,000.

“I thank them [the fans], it’s important that they’re at the stadium, because they’re Inter’s 12th man. We’re united for Inter, regardless of whether things go well or badly.

“The average attendance at the stadium has been high so far, and we must continue that.

“We have to fill the stadium, and I’m not saying that for financial reasons, but to show the world that we’re a team and a club which is united with our fans.

“Filling the stadium is important to show our opponents that playing at our home is not easy. The players have shown our fans, especially this season, that they’re a gritty team that fights to the end.

“As directors and fans, we always have to show that we support the team.”
