Milan centre-back Thiago Silva has revealed how his wife talked him out of joining Real Madrid last summer.

The 26-year-old was strongly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, particularly because Jose Mourinho rates him highly.

Interviewed in Il Corriere dello Sport, Silva said: "It's true, I know. But my wife Isabel has always answered for me. She was the one to first say 'no' to Real. She definitely prefers Milan to Madrid."

Silva also had second thoughts when the first words of his son were apparently those of the current Milan team.

Turning his attention back to the pitch, Silva reassured fans that he is trying to recover from an ankle injury as soon as possible.

"It still gives me a little bother when I run, but I am gritting my teeth. I hope to be [irreplaceable in the Milan team] for as long as possible. I would have no problem playing here until I am 40 like Maldini."
