Bologna are still looking for their first point or even goal under new coach Thiago Motta, who admits Juventus ‘deserved the victory.’

The former Genoa and Spezia boss was brought in when Sinisa Mihajlovic was controversially fired, but their only success of the campaign has been under caretaker managers during the changeover period.

Thiago Motta changed their tactics from 3-5-2 to 4-2-3-1 and the team seems to be struggling to adapt, suffering defeats to Empoli and Juventus.

“It was a very complicated match this evening. We conceded the first goal on a counter-attack, but Juve deserved the victory,” the coach told DAZN.

The opening strike was from Filip Kostic, while Dusan Vlahovic nodded in a Weston McKennie cross on the counter from a Bologna corner before Arkadiusz Milik’s stunning volley completed the rout.

“Juve are a strong side and they caused us problems, we couldn’t get out of our half and when we did, they defended well.

“We need to improve in every area, but I also saw positive things tonight, even if the result was negative. We must work and focus on the next game against Sampdoria.”

It remains to be seen who will be on the Samp bench next week, as the club fired coach Marco Giampaolo today after a run of just two points in eight rounds.

Meanwhile, Thiago Motta defended his tactical changes to Bologna.

“I never said the system wasn’t important, I said it was not the only important thing. The whole team must be able to give Marko Arnautovic more support, so we attack in numbers, move the ball around and force the opposition to chase the ball.

“We have quality, we can improve, but clearly it was difficult to create chances for Arnautovic this evening. I have only recently arrived, but I am convinced we can improve. It is a good squad, the players have belief and the next game with Sampdoria is important.”
