Maurizio Zamparini has asked Beppe Iachini to turn around Palermo’s attitude in time for the start of the Serie A season.

The Rosanero warmed up for their return to the top flight next Sunday at home to Sampdoria with a surprise 3-0 home elimination to Modena in the third round of the Coppa Italia.

“Just as the Coach did, I apologise to the fans,” Zamparini has reflected through the pages of Tuttosport today.

“The truth is that that team should not have gone out on to the field against Modena. Palermo had to go through, we did not need to try experiments. We needed in the field the team that would give us the greatest guarantees.

“You can concede three goals to Juventus, also to Atalanta, but not to Modena who last season were 25 points behind us.”

Even so, the famously impatient club President Zamparini isn’t yielding the axe on his Coach just yet.

“There is unconditional confidence in our Coach. At this time we are embarrassed, just as in the past it happened in the UEFA Cup.

“We have paid also for a physical condition that is still pretty rough, we are probably feeling the workloads still. They ran over us.

“That said, I say to Iachini that from here to next Sunday I want to see a different attitude and a different team  – against Sampdoria we cannot repeat this game.

“The fans may be in the throes of depression, but I tell them to stay calm, the true Palermo is something else.”
