Hernandez joined Milan from Madrid last summer in a €20m deal and has instantly become a fans’ favourite at San Siro, scoring six goals in 25 appearances this summer.

“Theo arrived at Real Madrid very young and perhaps they lacked a little patience with him,” Manuel Garcia Quilon told Calciomercato.it.

“You need a lot of patience with quality players and you have to give them space. At Real Madrid, on the other hand, he didn’t get much.

“At very big clubs, such as Madrid, they prefer ready-made players and that prevents patience with the younger ones.

“Therefore, they often have to look for their place at other teams, where maybe they can then explode, like Theo is at Milan.

“If he stays on this track and does his job well, with the support of the club, he can become one of the best left-backs in the world.”

Garcia Quilon was then asked whether the Rossoneri had snapped up a bargain in the 22-year-old.

“He must confirm [his quality] at Milan: once he does that, his valuation will be worth much more than €50m.”
